No, I'm not talking of that thing people paste on their bodies to stop an addiction, like smoking...or birth control or anything like that. I'm talking about "The Patch", a website for local cities all over the country. I'd never heard of them until yesterday, when I did Henna at the Crowell Public Library in San Marino, CA.
This was an event sponsored by the library for their young adults. It was a beautiful day, and the kids were great. They each got a little henna from me, and I talked to them about natural henna vs. black henna, as well as a few factoids about henna.
So...the "Patch" comes into the picture because one of their reporters, Kira Loomis, was there taking pictures and writing about the event. This is the article: "Henna Painting for Teens".
Thanks "San Marino Patch" and Kira for posting my website and writing about the event. The photos look great, too!

Pysanky 2011
Yay! I'm making Pysanky eggs again. I got another urge to jump back into 'painting' these. I love the intricacy of these traditional Ukrainian Easter eggs. So, I've got my dyes mixed and ready to go from Yevshan. All my supplies are set up and laid out.
I've realized as I do these, that the 'hobbies' and art work that I love doing best are a melange from other cultures. I mean, think about it, I'm a Henna Artist (traditionally an art form from India, Morrocco, etc.)...I paint these Pysanky (mostly known from the Ukraine, but I believe I've read some areas of Poland do these, too)...some of my favorite lacework to knit is from Estonia. Oh, and then I LOVE Russian Nesting Dolls or Matryoshka (those may be my next thing to try to paint). I'm like a 'world artist'. hehe
So, this is what I've come up with so far, with the help of my collection of Pysanky design books.
Kiana has gotten into this, too. She's created a few designs of her own that she may be using in her Senior show this year. I'm trying a new design that I've created, myself. It's for a friend's birthday present. We'll see if it works out. ;-)
So, enjoy the slideshow. I will more than likely be posting more as I go along.

Update on my World...Yep, it's January
Whoah, it has been BUSY. A good busy, but busy nonetheless. First things first, I should mention that those tests came out pretty great. Turns out that the residual Thyroid cells have shrunk down a few mm. There doesn't appear to be any cancer cells...even cooler news! I do, however, have to still deal w/ an MRI next month. Since that ultrasound showed that I had enlarged Lymph Nodes, the doc wants to be sure it's nothing to worry about.
Henna has already been booking well. While Dec-Feb are dead months for me...usually for any Henna Artist...I've been getting quite a few gigs. YAY!!! :-D I'm throwing it out there to the universe that the momentum keeps up. I love my business...and I really dig my clients.
Since it's January, I've gone ahead and re-organized a few things in my studio. I now have a chest of drawers in there that used to be in the kids' room. We've remodeled their space and done something a little different w/ their furniture so they don't need them anymore. It's worked out great, and has created a bit more space in there. I'm loving it! I actually feel like its cozier in there, AND not so cluttered. Check it out:
So, let's see...Oh...last week, I did a networking event for a book promotion for Lynn Zavaro's "The Game of You" at the Big Red Sun. The Bungalow PR group invited me to do this event. I had a great time meeting new people and doing henna along w/ my friend Paula.
I've got more events like that coming up this year. Check out my page for more details and "Like" me on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Henna-Body-Art-and-Soulmate-Fantasy-Paintings-by-Lernie/192733303069.
